The name refers to the comments and annotations left in the margins of books. As avid researchers we were intrigued by the traces and marks left by readers, as they demonstrate what readers valued within texts. Each issue of Marginalia focusses on a different mode of inquiry. In each issue, a fragmented essay is synthesised with our own conjecture.
What differentiates this publication, is each issue is overwritten by a guest annotator.
They mark their own trajectory, making connections and comments, adding to the information and providing response or emphasis. This dialogue between writer and annotator gives readers two layers of understanding: the original text and the annotator’s marginalia.
Issue 01––Scopic, is driven by a shared curiosity for theories surrounding ‘The Gaze’.
